5 Things the Artist Needs to Know Before Recording

Updated: Sep 30, 2021

5 Things to know before recording:

1) Know your material!

If you know your material inside and out, it makes recording a breeze. Especially if you can disect it using music theory. Knowing the tempo(s), key(s), and time signature(s) is the KEY to making a recording session go easy without hassle.

2) Set-up your instruments properly!

This includes replacing strings, adjusting intonation, action and etc. on your stringed instruments (Guitar, bass, etc.)! This will impact not only your playing ability, but tone and overall sound! If you are a drummer, replace your heads before coming to the studio as well. If you want your drums to hit like modern day records, put on new skins and tune them right!

3) Vocalists, know your vocal patterns and treat your voice like your car!

Nothing is more frustrating than a vocalist who sings the song differently. Every. Time. We know you're excited to show off your range but be decisive and stick with what sounds best as consistency is key to hit songs! Also, another tip: do not drink carbonated beverages, smoke or drink cold liquids. Room temperature water and warm tea with some honey in it will ensure your vocals sound crisp and full!
